Pres, founder of Barstool Sports, is usually cunning and smart about his responses when people verbally attack his website or city. But he proved to be less than spectacular while defending the Boston Red Sox fans when Tampa Bay Rays player Luke Scott called Sox fans “vulgar” and “ruthless”. ESPN: Scott says:
“”Just their arrogance,” Scott said. “The fans come in and they take over the city. They’re ruthless. They’re vulgar. They cause trouble. They talk about your family. Swear at you. Who likes that? When people do that, it just gives you more incentive to beat them.”
“Listen I wouldn’t like the Red Sox either if I played anywhere else. But it has nothing to do with the fans being ruthless and vulgar. It’s quite the opposite. It’s jealousy pure and simple. I mean who wants to be stuck in the minor leagues playing in front of thousands of empty seats every night and eliminated by the All star break every year? He wishes he could play in a city like Boston where every game is sold out and players are treated like gods among men.” “Luke Scott hates us because he wants to be us.”
Nowhere does Pres site what the Boston players actually do. They may be extremely happy with their favorites players and have that hometown pride, but Boston fans are notorious for being exceptionally obnoxious. Is Pres losing his touch? How can you defend something that everyone else outside of Boston thinks is true?
