Last Sunday, the Food Network’s popular show Cupcake Wars aired an episode featuring all-vegan cupcake bakers.
For those of you who haven’t seen the show before, Cupcake Wars is a competition that pits four bakers from across the U.S. against each other in a cupcake bake-off to win $10,000 and the chance to show off their desserts at the special event of the episode.
In the “Vegan Bake-Off” episode, the winning baker displayed her cupcakes at the Los Angeles Green Festival in addition to the prize money. For anyone who wants to see the episode, the Food Network website says it will be rerunning it this Saturday at 1 PM.
After watching this episode, I was very curious about the idea of vegan baking. I hadn’t realized how many ingredients contained animal products in “regular” baking, so I searched out this handy list of vegan substitutes. I’m looking forward to picking up some ingredients and trying to make some vegan cupcakes of my own!
