Spring break at Emmanuel means competition and giving back

By Sara Berthiaume

Spring Break has fallen upon us once more. Sunshine, free time, and ah yes, partying… Not for everyone. The Emmanuel College Woman’s Basketball team was battling the brackets during the week off from classes. Making it to the Elite 8 – Emmanuel’s efforts held up only so far to the defending National champions, Amherst College.

Although according to one Boston.com article, a student from King’s College chose to vacation in Cancun, instead of help her team during the playoffs. Luckily however, Emmanuel was able to defeat King’s in the round before losing to Amherst.

While many other Emmanuel students ventured home or away for the break, three groups went on the college’s annual Alternative Spring Break. One group to Wheeling, West Virginia, one to New Orleans, LA and one stayed in Boston. According to an article on Emmanuel’s website, in addition to the two usual ASB spots, a group of students from the COF stayed in the Jean Yawkey Center for the week assisting various sites throughout the city.

With the infinite options for spring break, it is no surprise that many Emmanuel students took on non-traditional ways at this growing school.
