This past Saturday night, I was part of a successful surprise birthday party for a friend that lead to another Boston local music experience. The Novel Ideas were hired by a friend to play a set during the party, and I could not have been happier!
My friend whose party it was saw The Novel Ideas perform at EC Radio’s Music Festival a few weeks back, and he really appreciated their music. As a birthday present, two of our mutual friends got a hold of the band and hired them to play at his party.
Reasons I have recently become a fan of The Novel Ideas:
- They sound like a cross between The Decemberists newest album, The King is Dead, and Fleet Foxes. In fact, they actually did a cover of Fleet Foxes’ song “Ragged Woods”
- One of the members resembles Cameron Frye from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. If you’re like me and really love John Hughes films, then you would appreciate this fact, as well!
- The Novel Ideas closed their set with a cover of “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac, one of my favorite songs of all time. The band even encouraged everyone to sing a long with them. That scored so many points for me!
Their new album, Home, can be downloaded here.
If you enjoy the jokes and interesting anecdotes exchanged during each break in songs and quality music, then definitely keep an eye out for The Novel Ideas to play another show. If you don’t enjoy these things…Well, I definitely recommend them.
