A Boston Local Music Surprise

The Novel Ideas playing at the party

By Kerry Clayton

This past Saturday night, I was part of a successful surprise birthday party for a friend that lead to another Boston local music experience. The Novel Ideas were hired by a friend to play a set during the party, and I could not have been happier!

My friend whose party it was saw The Novel Ideas perform at EC Radio’s Music Festival a few weeks back, and he really appreciated their music. As a birthday present, two of our mutual friends got a hold of the band and hired them to play at his party.

Reasons I have recently become a fan of The Novel Ideas:

Their new album, Home, can be downloaded here.

If you enjoy the jokes and interesting anecdotes exchanged during each break in songs and quality music, then definitely keep an eye out for The Novel Ideas to play another show. If you don’t enjoy these things…Well, I definitely recommend them.

The Carrier’s last set

by Kerry Clayton

Announced back in January, the Boston based punk rock band The Carrier held their last show this past Friday. The band played its conclusion along with a second Boston local band, Defeeter, at Club Lido in Revere. The band used this show to end their European Tour during this past month. You can find a video of The Carrier’s set from that show here.

It’s with very mixed emotions that we announce that The Carrier will be breaking up this upcoming March. There are a lot of reasons that have led us to this decision, and it wasn’t an easy one. But ultimately, we all share a mutual feeling that we’re transitioning into different chapters in our lives—personally and musically.

The Carrier

In short, it’s been an extremely unique and compelling coming of age for all of us, and we’ve made countless memories—good and bad.

You can check out both twitter accounts of both The Carrier and Defeeter to see what the bands had to say about the show, and pictures from the show here.

Not your Grandma’s music!

By, Kerry Clayton

Last year, local musicians Josh Knowles and Rhett Price attracted fans by playing in the Boston Commons. During these spontaneous “shows,” the duo would play covers of popular singles with their own spin.

Josh and Rhett compose their own arrangements of these popular songs, bringing something old and something new to their music. Their aim was to show young music lovers that classical music can still be enjoyed today. Check out their YouTube page!
